In the latter the topics covered include: the relationship between epistemology, methodology and qualitative analysis methods different approaches to coding qualitative data concepts that shape coding techniques for seeking patterns and identifying relationships when working inductively, deductively and abductively and the best (and worst) practices in reporting qualitative findings. Qualitative Data Analysis with NVivo covers the essential features of NVivo but also covers the key methodological notions underlying the qualitative analysis process. Introduction to NVivo is designed for people who, although familiar with qualitative analysis, need to learn more about how NVivo can assist them in their research. The difference between the two NVivo courses - Introduction to NVivo and Qualitative Data Analysis with NVivo - lies in the time dedicated to software functionalities versus methodological content. The courses are delivered in either Windows or Mac version, although both versions can also be taught together on request. These skills include: preparing and cleaning data importing and organising a dataset managing a literature review automatically and manually coding data seeking patterns and identifying relationships presenting results using graphic displays coordinating teamwork and generating an audit trail that evidences the analytical process from beginning to the end.
I teach two NVivo courses designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively use basic and advanced features of this software in their own research projects. NVivo supports a range of inductive and deductive methods for analysing qualitative data, including: thematic analysis content analysis within- and cross-case analysis discourse, conversational and narrative analysis grounded theory analytical induction and qualitative research synthesis. NVivo is equipped with a number of tools for automatically coding structured data, as well as functionalities that keep researchers close to the data when these have to be coded manually and inductively. It is a powerful platform that supports a vast range of data that includes text, multimedia, social media, libraries from reference manager software, emails from Outlook and notes taken using Evernote and OneNote. NVivo is a software program for qualitative data analysis.
